Kava Kava
by Jackie's Jungle

The root of this large heart shaped leafy Polynesian evergreen shrub, that climbs to ten feet tall, grows naturally in Hawaii and the Pacific Islands and is cultivated in Australia and the United States.

Kava Kava has many uses and it's effect depends on the amount and method of ingestion. It is often used to relief pain, induce sleep when used with other herbs, used as non-drowsy anxiety remedy, bladder/urinary aid, an aphrodisiac, an analgesic, and a cleansing diuretic. It has a hot and bitter taste which leaves the mouth feeling slightly numb - making it a great herbal mouthwash for toothaches and canker sores.

Pacific Island people use Kava Kava  in long ceremonies, chewing the root and drinking it to induce intoxication and euphoria to aid them in contact and communicate with their gods. This narcotic effect causes a drunken stupor that is calming and a stimulating intoxicant which is probably why people also consider it to be an aphrodisiac.

As a antiseptic and pain reliever it is especially useful to those in chronic pain and it is good for arthritis/gout since it cleans (removing waste products from the body) and relaxes the muscles which tense from continued pain. It is a safe remedy for pain, nerves, tension, emotional stress, muscle soreness, muscle relaxant, and anxiety since it usually does not effect the person's vision, response, or ability to operate machinery.

Real Medical Research:
Kava lactones include kawain which is a known sedative.  In 1990 Germany published findings that kawain is as effective for anxiety as benzodiazepene. Kava lactones have also proven to have an anesthetic effect on the lining of the bladder and urinary tubules.

Read Policy. Do not take if pregnant! Do not exceed dosages and do not take for more that two weeks at a time unless recommended by a doctor. This is to be used as a short term immediate herbal aid prepared as a tincture, infusion, or chewed.
